Growing up, at what point did you realize you wanted to be in entertainment?

When I was growing up I was really into sports, but would always put on a production during my playdates. When I was around 8, I realized I wanted to do entertainment as a living. I started writing music when I was 15. I had always known I could sing, but it never crossed my mind to pursue singing as part of my career. The real defining moment for me was the first time I went on tour and got on stage to perform my first original song “Over You” in front of a live audience. That was the moment I knew I wanted to do this forever.

What is the first song you remember connecting with?

The first song I remember connecting to is “Something” by The Beatles. I think it’s just a beautiful song. I was really little when I first heard it, and have always loved it. I listen to it all the time still. I’ve been a huge fan of The Beatles since birth.

You have a new single “Camera Roll” which we love. What was the idea behind this pop song?

The idea came about in the recording studio. My producer was actually on the phone and I was like put your phone down and focus. And then thought of the lyrics, “put your phone down now.. and focus right on me.” I love that it’s portrayed differently now than when it was originally written.

Your single “Over You” was in the Top 10 of the 2017 Macy’s iHeart Radio Rising Star Competition, how does it feel to get such positive feedback from not only your fans but major outlets?

I was blown away that I was in the Top 10, and with all of the other really incredible finalists. It’s always great to hear such positive feedback. I’m always grateful for the love and support I’ve gotten.

You featured in Teen Vogue’s Best Dressed alongside Barbara Palvin, Troye Sivan, Noah Cyrus & Sarah Hyland.  How does it feel to be a part of such a cool lineup of girls and to have one of the most influential magazines/websites include you in their list?

It’s an amazing feeling! It’s really cool to go to events, and be surrounded by other empowering women in this industry that I look up to. It’s also always great to look awesome and feel confident in what I’m wearing.

As a performer, how do you prepare yourself before going on stage?

I do vocal warm ups, drink a bunch of water and take deep breaths. I always have a ton of rehearsals before I go on tour. During rehearsals, I practice going through my set and work on staging. I’ve also been trying to incorporate dancing into more of my upcoming tours.

If you could describe your sound in 3 words what would they be?

Super-vibey, relatable, catchy

Who is on your Spotify playlist right now?

Soo many different people! I have a bunch of different playlists — my favorites are my R&B and Pop playlists. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Ty Dolla $ign, Kehlani, Blackbear and Bazzi.

You got to play the role of Nina in Indie film “Memoria” produced by James Franco. How did it feel to be part of a project of such a big film icon?

I loved working on Memoria! It was the first movie I ever worked on, and a great learning experience for me.

You actively spread awareness of Breast Cancer to young teenage girls, highlighting a hugely important issue that affects so many of our family and friends. What is the most inspiring thing a fan has told you during your journey to raise awareness of breast cancer?

No one has reached out to me about their journey specifically but I love being able to use my position to spread breast cancer awareness to other teens. My aunt passed away from breast cancer, so the cause is really close to my heart and something that I will always advocate for.

For others out there who are looking to be in the music industry, what is your best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Sam Farrar from Maroon 5, who’s a family friend of mine, gave me the best music advice when I first started out. He said that when you’re in a writing session to never be afraid to speak up for what you believe in. As an artist it’s important to believe in what you’re writing. Especially since I’m so young, it’s important to be brave and be true to myself as a songwriter.

You’re currently on a nationwide tour! What are you most excited about with these tour dates? What can we expect from you in the coming year?

I love connecting with my fans on tour! It’s fun meeting a lot of my fans and building a personal connection with them. You can expect new music and more touring from me this year. My new single “Camera Roll” came out on February 2nd!

What does Paradise mean to you?

Someplace far away and beautiful, surrounded by water and beaches. A place where everyone is treated equal and love has no labels.
